These instructions are for users who already have a Google Analytics account, and are tracking website activity through Google Analytics’ legacy platform (Universal Analytics, “UA”), who now want to add the future-proofed Google Analytics 4 (”GA4”) platform.
Here’s how…
- Log into your GA account here: https://analytics.google.com/
- Click Admin
- Select your Account and your Property
- Under the Property column, select GA4 Setup Assistant
- Select Get Started and, if you accept the terms, proceed
- Once done, select Go to your GA4 property
- Now, under the Property navigation (make sure your new GA4 account is selected), select Data Streams
- Click Web, select your website’s Data Stream
- Under Google tag, select View tag instructions
- On the Installation Instructions, select Install Manually
- On the screen, you’ll see the JavaScript snippet for your account's Google tag. Your Google tag is the entire section of code that appears, beginning with:
<!-- Google tag (gtag.js) -->
and ending with </script>
- Copy that code to your clipboard (CTRL+C for PC, or COMMAND+C for Mac)
Now, go to your cinema website admin panel.
- In the left hand navigation, select Settings
- Scroll down to Header Tags/Scripts
- Paste your GA code into this field (CTRL+V for PC, or COMMAND+V for Mac)
- Hit Update
You’re done. Data should start showing in your GA account within 30 minutes.
