First, we need the MailChimp values needed to connect the pop-up to your account.

Find your MailChimp API key

  1. Log in to your MailChimp account, click on your profile at the top right corner to open a menu, click on Account & Billing.
  2. In the account panel, click on Extras, and select API keys from the dropdown menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "Your API keys" section, click the Create A Key button. Give your key a name (like “Website pop-up”) and generate the API key. Copy that API key.

Find your MailChimp Audience ID

  1. From MailChimp’s left-hand menu – click the Audience section, and select Audience Dashboard.
  2. With the appropriate audience selected, click on the Manage Audience dropdown to the right of the audience name, and select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to find the section labelled "Audience name and defaults", and select it. There you’ll find your Audience ID – copy that.

Now we can…

Make the pop-up for your website

  1. Login in to your Your Cinema admin. From the left hand menu, click Subscription Pop-Up.
  2. Fill in all details. Here’s an explanation of them:
    1. Image (optional) – upload a .jpg or .png at a minimum width of 1280 pixels. The admin will crop your image, but if you want to upload an exact size, create an image 1280 pixels by 475 pixels.

    2. Active – switching this on will make the pop-up live on site.

    3. API Key – paste in your MailChimp API key.

    4. Audience ID – paste in your MailChimp Audience ID.

    5. Headline – this is the large copy, your pitch to your website users. Keep it short.

    6. Disclaimer text (optional) – this is where you can add the fine print. Keep it short. If you want to add a link (for instance to your Terms) add the HTML. Like this:

By signing up you agree to our <a href="[your terms page URL]">terms</a>.

    7. Status – this is required by Mailchimp.

      • “Subscribed” will add user to the list immediately (this is what we set to by default)
      • “Pending” means means double opt-in
    8. Horizontal Position (ie: 50% from left of page) – for desktop users, this is where the pop-up will be positioned. Eg: if it’s set to 50, the pop-up will be positioned 50% from the left of page.

      • We recommend setting this value to 50%.
    9. Vertical Position (ie: 50% from top of page) – for all users, this value determines when the pop-up appears. Eg: if it’s set to 50, the pop-up will appear when the user scrolls to the half-way mark of a given page.

      • We recommend setting this value to 50%.
    10. Styles – here is where you can set specific colours for all elements in your pop-up. The defaults will look good, but you may wish to make this specific to your brand.

  3. Once finished – make sure the Active switch is set to “on” – and hit Update.
